Q&A

Q: The designer who's drawing up plans for our retirement home seems to love insulating concrete forms. If they're so great, why don't we see more buildings using them?

—Jan and Rene Fortin, Florence, Oregon

Tips

To reduce the likelihood of a grease fire when broiling food, sprinkle a thick layer of salt in the bottom of the broiling pan. Then place the broiling rack onto the pan. As the meat cooks, the salt will absorb any fat and grease that drip down through the broiling rack, eliminating flare-ups and spatters.
