TOH has become acquainted with so many amazing trade programs all over the nation, especially after launching our Generation NEXT initiative to help close the skills gap. One of our favorite programs is unCommon Construction in New Orleans, Louisiana. unCommon Construction was established in 2015 and “uses the build process to empower youth to lead the workforce after high school or college.”
This year, unCommon Construction partnered with The Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans to build affordable housing in Tremé, New Orleans.

Pre-construction started on January 10th and the home will be sold at an affordable rate to a lucky NOLA family. By February 2nd, apprentices were onsite to frame and raise all of the exterior house walls for this project.

In other news, the folks over at unCommon Construction recently hosted “Bring Your Dad to Work Day” where apprentices “supervised” their parents’ visit to the job site. Dads even volunteered to help out with projects for the day.

Shout out to second semester apprentice Charlotte’s dad, Ezell, for spending the day on site under her supervision! #womeninconstruction #girlswithgrit #fathersofdaughters #youthempowerment #buildinghousesframingcharacter
