Both Norm and Tom illustrate the basic techniques for framing a deck, including how to properly attach the ledger to the house and how to support the opposite end using pressure-treated posts. Using a simple bubble-style level, the two create the perfect pitch so that the deck will shed water. They also explain why they’re using 2×12 over such a short span. Hint: it has nothing to do with increasing the structure’s load-bearing capacity.
