The project is at the halfway point—windows are in, trim detail is in progress, and rough-in is underway.
Kevin O’Connor gives a progress tour of the interior, but first, he stops to check out an under-seat storage box carpenter Kalen Gomez built for his truck that went viral on social media.
Along the tour, he checks in with homeowner Asha to view the design she created for a custom stained glass side light for the front door.
He also meets with electrician Matt Sczesny, who is busy roughing in vapor-tight electrical boxes to make the house airtight, and Tom Silva and builder Zack Dettmore, who are getting ready to build a custom jamb and threshold for the original front door.
As great effort is being made to make the house airtight, a self-adhesive water-resistive barrier (WRB) was chosen for this project. Zack explains why he used this product and conducts an experiment testing the water-resistive properties of various types of WRBs.
Kevin visits the local studio where the custom stained glass side light is being produced and tours the manufacturing process.
Back at the house, installation of the cellular PVC exterior trim continues.
