Only one week is left before the renovation of the Glen Ridge, NJ project, an 1887 Victorian being transformed for multigenerational living, is completed. The staircase has been trimmed out, and the kitchen cabinets and countertops are being installed.
The inset-style kitchen cabinets came prefinished and flat packed, with most pieces having to be assembled onsite. Builder Zack Dettmore explains to Kevin O’Connor that this method of delivery for the style cabinets is one way he provides value to the homeowners.
In the mudroom, Tom Silva and Zack construct a built-in bench that was designed by the architect to look like a piece of furniture from salvaged floor joists and framing lumber. During the process, Tom shares his tip for creating clean and precise cuts.
Upstairs painter Lazarus Poinditis gives the primary vanity a new durable impact, moisture, and chemical-resistant finish using a two-part two-coat paint process.
Despite snow on the ground outside, Jenn Nawada uses the time to plan the new landscape—a multi-seasonal design with a focus on native plants. She creates a three-dimensional rendering of the design to help homeowners Sunita and Shankar envision the new landscape.
Back inside, the crown molding on the kitchen cabinets is installed without visible fasteners for a flawless finish. For this same reason and precision, electrician Matt Sczesny waits for the complete installation of the cabinets to bore holes for the recessed lighting that he previously wired for.
