Our Take on Sears Appliance Warranty

Sears Home Warranty is a nationwide service provider backed by the brand’s appliance and home services team. Sears advertises a total of five plan offerings throughout the country, ranging from appliance-only or HVAC-only coverage to whole home protections. However, after requesting sample quotes for addresses in all 50 U.S. states, we found the company limits coverage options in most states to the Sears Appliance Warranty, which covers 11 common home appliances.

The Sears Appliance Warranty includes generous terms, with individual limits of up to $3,500 per covered item. While aggregate or overall limits of $12,000 also apply, this plan includes bonuses such as discounts on non-covered appliance and HVAC repairs serviced by Sears, discounts through Sears Parts Direct, and coverage for two home refrigerators. A $100 service call fee is applied each time you file a claim in most areas, and the company includes a 180-day workmanship guarantee for extra peace of mind.

However, Sears policies come with some limitations. Plans do not allow you to select your own service technician or service fee, which gives homeowners less pricing flexibility. More so, the company offers only a few add-ons compared to options such as Liberty Home Guard. Sears also isn’t the cheapest home warranty plan we’ve reviewed, with premiums of up to $110 depending on your location and coverage choice.

Overall, we gave Sears Home Warranty a score of 3.9 out of 5 stars based on our review methodology. While it isn’t the most affordable home warranty option, plans include higher-than-average coverage limits and are backed by the reputation of Sears.

We recommend Sears Appliance Warranty if you:

  • Want a policy with higher individual item coverage limits
  • Prefer having a long workmanship guarantee in case you need to claim multiple repairs for a single appliance or system
  • Prefer a plan with extra benefits such as HVAC tune-ups and discounts on Sears appliances and services.

We don’t recommend Sears Appliance Warranty if you:

  • Want flexibility in choosing your service call fee rate
  • Need whole home coverage and live in a state where the company only offers appliance plans
  • Prefer a plan that allows more customization with a longer list of add-on options

Sears Appliance Warranty Coverage

Sears offers up to five home warranty plan options depending on your location. In addition to the appliance-only, systems-only, and whole home options you can find with most other home warranty companies, Sears offers an HVAC-only plan in certain states. The company also provides a plan that only covers appliances and HVAC components in some states.

Sears’ plan availability varies widely by state, based on our secret shopping process. For example, while Florida residents can choose between three coverage options, Pennsylvania residents may only see appliance repair warranty plans. Regardless of location, all plans include competitive coverage limits when compared to other national home warranty companies.

Sears Home Warranty plans also offer a few unique retail benefits, including the following:

  • One free annual heating and cooling tune-up
  • One free refrigerator tune-up
  • Discount of 12% off at Sears Home Improvement stores
  • Discounts of up to 25% on repair services not covered by a Sears Home Warranty

Core Plans

Sears Home Warranty offers five total plan options, with options varying by your ZIP code. Depending on where you live, you can choose between 1–5 of the following home system and appliance warranty options: Appliance Plan, Systems Plan, Whole Home Plan, Heating and Cooling Plan, or Appliances and HVAC Plan.

The Fine Print

Before enrolling in any home warranty plan, it’s important to read a sample service contract to learn more about exclusions, deductible options, and cancellation terms. Sears Home Warranty makes it easy to download a sample contract and review terms before enrolling, based on our experience.

Like other home warranty companies, Sears Home Warranty plans include upper coverage limits that outline how much the company will pay for repairs during a contract term. For example, under the Appliance Plan, each individual item is covered against up to $3,500 in repairs per term. The total aggregate coverage for all appliance repairs is $12,000 per term.

Contracts also include details on individual component exclusions. For example, while the Appliance Plan includes coverage for two refrigerators, Sears specifies in its sample contract that it excludes ice makers from policy benefits. Sears makes component exclusions clear on each contract, bolding details where relevant, based on our review.

Policies with systems coverage include higher individual item limits but more component exclusions. For example, air conditioning systems include a list of 10 excluded components and situations. But each individual system includes up to $6,000 in coverage with the same $12,000 aggregate limit.

Finally, it’s important to review a home warranty company’s general liability limitations before enrolling in coverage. In other words, this includes damage and situations a plan will not cover. Some important exclusions outlined in Sears Home Warranty’ terms for all of its plans include:

  • Damage caused by situations outside normal wear and tear
  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Flues, venting, chimneys, and exhaust lines
  • Items that fail due to a lack of routine maintenance

Sears Appliance Warranty Cost

The cost of a Sears home warranty will vary depending on two primary factorsβ€”your location and the plan you select. The Appliance Plan ranges from $50–$70 per month depending on your state, with service fees varying from $90–$150. If you live in a state with multiple plan options, selecting a plan with systems or whole home coverage will increase the cost of your home warranty, based on our quote process.

Plan Cost

Like most companies, Sears Home Warranty charges a monthly premium to maintain your coverage as well as a per-use service call fee. Your monthly payment keeps coverage current, similar to an insurance premium, while the service fee acts similarly to a deductible paid each time you use plan benefits.

Sears’ monthly rates and service call fees vary by state. Browse the table below to explore sample pricing for a Sears Home Warranty for a 1,500-square-foot home in Orlando, Florida.

PlanMonthly Cost Service Call Fee
Appliance Plan$60$100
Systems Plan$70$100
Whole Home Plan$110$100

Discounts

Sears offered one discount option on its home warranty policies when our team requested a quote. When you enroll in coverage online, you can choose between monthly or annual pricing, or paying for a year’s premium at once. If you enroll in annual coverage, you can save up to $250 each year based on the plan you choose.

Customer Reviews: Reddit, Trustpilot, and More

To learn more about the customer experience with Sears Home Warranty, our team read reviews on the BBB and Trustpilot.

Positive reviews praised Sears for its customer service teams and for the expertise of its service technicians. Many reviews mentioned technicians by name, complementing their promptness of arrival and ability to make quick-fixes. However, slow and delayed service was by far the most common complaint among customers. Some customers said they had to make multiple service calls to receive appointmentsβ€”with some left waiting weeks for a technician to visit.

Here are a few examples of what homeowners with Sears Home Warranty plans said about the company.

β€œ[My] technician was professional and courteous. He knew his job and provided helpful tips regarding proper maintenance of appliances. He took pride in his work. Thank you for sending him.” β€”Lorraine J. via Trustpilot, January 2025

β€œI have been paying Sears [for a] warranty for almost a year and after 11 months, my oven needed an igniter changed. After three weeks of nonstop calling, [Sears] scheduled a technician, and on the day of service, said [the] technician [was] not available. So no oven for more than three weeks [despite] paying [a] monthly fee.” β€”Harriet M. via Trustpilot, February 2025

Is Sears Appliance Warranty Worth It?

Deciding if a Sears Home Warranty is worth the price will vary depending on your home and your financial situation. Home warranties can offer benefits for homeowners with concerns about unexpected system or appliance breakdowns or those without an emergency fund. Home warranties can especially help save you money if you live in an older home and need more regular repairs.

However, in some circumstances a home warranty isn’t worth it. For example, if you moved into a new home with components still under the original manufacturer’s warranty plans. However, if you anticipate needing at least one home repair per year, a home warranty is more likely worth the price. We recommend getting a quote from Sears before you decide so you can learn more about available coverage options and cost. Note that since plan options vary by location, not every customer will qualify for the full range of service plans that Sears advertises.

FAQs About Sears Appliance Warranty

Who do I call for a Sears warranty?

To learn more about Sears Home Warranty and local coverage options, you can call the company’s customer service number at 419-558-4893.

Does a Sears Appliance Warranty cover a washing machine?

Yes, the Sears Appliances Plan offers up to $3,500 in protection for your washing machine each contract term. Review a service contract to learn about coverage terms and component exclusions.

Do Sears Home Warranty plans have a deductible?

Sears Home Warranty policies include a service fee, which is similar to a deductible. The service fee is due each time you use your plan benefits, rather than β€œmet” once for the year as with your insurance policy.

Is a Sears Home Warranty worth it?

A Sears Home Warranty is worth considering if you don’t have a home emergency savings fund. The company extends higher-than-average coverage limits, which can especially offer benefits if you have high-end appliances from brands such as Kenmore or Wolf. If you have newer appliances and systems or a robust emergency fund to pay for repairs out-of-pocket, a home warranty might not seem as worth it.
