Our Reviews of Top Providers in Connecticut
When reviewing home warranties for the state of Connecticut, we considered how robust a provider’s HVAC coverage was, as well as total coverage limits. Since Connecticut has a lot of older homes and cold, icy winters, we prioritized coverage depth for appliances and systems over price. We’ve listed monthly versus annual costs as 55% of the home warranty customers we surveyed in the state pay for their home warranty monthly. We’ve also linked our full reviews for each provider if you want more comprehensive information.
American Home Shield

Coverage Overview
- Has high coverage caps of up to $5,000 for systems
- Offers coverage for old items or items with preexisting conditions
- Provides bonus discounts on maintenance services in its highest-tier plan
Keep in Mind
- Charges high monthly premiums and service fees compared to other providers
- Doesn’t provide an appliance-only plan
- Only offers six add-on options
Our Review
American Home Shield (AHS) is a solid pick if you have an older home and are looking for comprehensive coverage for your main appliances and home systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. AHS covers most systems up to $5,000 per repair or replacement.
AHS doesn’t exclude older or physically damaged items, unlike many providers. Plus, it covers items with preexisting conditions, issues, or problems that surfaced before you signed up for your warranty. That said, AHS’s premiums are the highest on our list.
In our latest home warranty survey, AHS was the most popular home warranty company among respondents in Connecticut. This makes sense in a state with many older homes and potentially aging appliances and systems because AHS provides one of the highest payouts per item.
Plan Details and Cost
American Home Shield offers three coverage plans: ShieldSilver, ShieldGold, and ShieldPlatinum. The AHS sample contract details the differences between these plans. You can choose to pay monthly or yearly premiums.
Here’s an overview of American Home Shield’s coverage plans:
- ShieldSilver ($79–$89 per month): The basic plan includes system-only coverage for major systems such as air conditioning, heating, and plumbing but no appliance coverage.
- ShieldGold ($99–$110 per month): The next tier covers systems and appliances, such as clothes washers and dryers, ranges, and water heaters.
- ShieldPlatinum ($129–$139 per month): This is the most comprehensive plan, which includes ShieldGold coverage plus benefits such as roof leak repairs and HVAC tune-ups.
American Home Shield offers just six add-ons, whereas many competitors offer many more customizable options.
Add-on coverage includes the following:
- Electronics protection
- Guest units
- Pool and spa equipment
- Roof-leak repair
- Septic pump
- Well pump
Choice Home Warranty

Coverage Overview
- Has transparent online quotes with add-on costs clearly displayed
- Offers comprehensive plan coverage for less than $60 per month
- Pays up to $3,000 per repair or replacement for most items
Keep in Mind
- Charges a $2.50 monthly fee if you pay premiums monthly instead of yearly
- Is facing an ongoing lawsuit in the state of Arizona
- Our tester had issues resolving multiple claims through Choice
Our Review
Choice Home Warranty is another provider known for its comprehensive coverage at a lower price. Choice’s comprehensive plan offers coverage limits of up to $3,000 per covered item. Additionally, we found it lists fewer exclusions for coverage—it includes most appliance and systems parts, such as dials and knobs.
Note that the company has faced several lawsuits and censures across several states. Our research shows that the state of Arizona issued a pending lawsuit to Choice over alleged consumer fraud.
Plan Details and Cost
Choice Home Warranty is the only company on this list to offer just two service plan options: the Basic plan and the Total plan. Choice’s sample agreement outlines its $3,000 coverage limit for most appliances and systems. Add-on coverage (except for pools, sump pumps, and second refrigerators) has a $500 coverage limit. Choice offers a 90-day guarantee for parts and a 60-day guarantee for labor. This guarantee means that if there are any further issues with your item, Choice will arrange to repair it for free.
Here’s an overview of Choice’s service plans:
- Basic plan ($63 per month): This plan covers most appliances and systems, excluding air conditioners, washers, dryers, and refrigerators.
- Total plan ($72 per month): The top-tier plan adds coverage for the AC, washer, dryer, and kitchen refrigerator.
Choice offers a monthly or yearly payment option. It charges a $2.50 monthly fee for monthly payments and a flat $100 service fee each time you request service.
Choice offers 10 add-on coverage options, ranging in price from $3.33 to $15 per month. The company doesn’t provide roof-leak coverage in its standard plans, but you can add it for $5.83 per month.
Here’s a sample of Choice’s add-ons:
- Limited roof leak
- Pool and spa
- Second refrigerator
- Sump pump
- Well pump
Elite Home Warranty

Coverage Overview
- Has the lowest average service fee in this review
- Offers higher coverage limits for high-end appliances
- Includes a 90-day workmanship guarantee per covered repair
Keep in Mind
- Charges a higher service fee for high-end appliance repairs
- Doesn’t offer its workmanship guarantee on repairs by out-of-network technicians
- Requires you to call in for a quote
Our Review
Elite Home Warranty is a solid choice if you need a customized plan. In addition to three standard plans, Elite offers 30 add-ons. It backs its coverage with a 90-day workmanship guarantee, which is three times that of the industry standard. You’ll also get a dedicated account representative to assist you throughout the life of your contract.
While Elite’s total standard yearly coverage cap of $15,000 ($7,000 for appliances and $8,000 for systems) is generous, you’ll need to read the fine print, as coverage limits vary by item.
Plan Details and Cost
Elite’s sample contract outlines what’s included in each plan. It also details each of its 30 add-ons. Here are the sample prices we got from our quote with Elite:
- Elite Appliances ($45 per month): Elite’s lowest-tier plan is an appliance-only plan that covers eight home appliances, such as stovetops, washing machines, and dishwashers.
- Elite Systems ($50 per month): Elite’s middle plan offers system-only protection for nine home systems, including air conditioning, heating, and electrical.
- Elite Complete ($60 per month): This plan combines Elite Appliances and Elite Systems plans for more comprehensive protection.
Additionally, Elite’s website allows you to create a customized plan for only the appliances and systems you need.
Based on our secret shopping, Elite Home Warranty charges monthly premiums ranging from $45 to $60. The company has a standard service call fee of $70. It charges $150 for high-end appliance repairs and service calls that occur after hours or on the weekend.
Elite has 30 additional options to customize your plan, including the following:
- Drainage, sewer, and water service lines
- HVAC or water heater annual maintenance
- Pool and spa equipment
- Roof patching
- Septic system
You can find the full list of Elite’s add-ons in the provider review we linked above.
AFC Home Warranty

Coverage Overview
- Allows you to choose your own technician
- Has a dedicated U.S.-based account manager as long as you’re a customer
- Includes roof leak protection at no additional cost for all plans
Keep in Mind
- Doesn’t include systems coverage in its bottom-tier plan
- Excludes coverage for items with unknown preexisting conditions
- Requires immediate claims submission to qualify for reimbursement
Our Review
We recommend AFC Home Warranty for older homes because of its extensive coverage options. The company offers four distinct plan tiers and 13 add-on options. It also provides a workmanship guarantee that lasts for the life of the plan.
Another perk of AFC is the option to choose your own contractor to complete repairs. This feature is great if you prefer to work with service providers you’ve worked with before.
Additionally, AFC offers a workmanship warranty for the life of your plan, which is by far the best guarantee of any company on this list. While the company caps the coverage limits for some systems at $1,000 or less, it doesn’t cap most HVAC repairs.
Plan Details and Cost
AFC offers four plan tiers and is the only company on our list with this many standard plans:
- Silver (call for a quote): The basic plan covers your main appliances, including the kitchen refrigerator, range, washer, and dryer. However, you must call AFC to access this plan since the company doesn’t offer it online.
- Gold ($7 per month): The next tier adds coverage for major systems, including electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, and heating.
- Platinum ($51 per month): The Platinum tier covers garage door openers, built-in microwaves, plumbing stoppages, faucet repairs or replacements, and icemakers.
- Diamond ($82 per month): The Diamond tier covers any electronics in your home that connect to Wi-Fi, exterior sewer lines, and exterior water lines.
A phone representative told us that most customers choose the $75 service call fee as it pays for itself in two claims. AFC offers monthly premium options, yearly options that provide a savings of roughly 9%, or three-year payment options that lock in your price for three years.
AFC Home Warranty offers a few add-ons that range in cost from $25 to $150 per year. Add-on coverage includes the following items:
- Additional appliances or electronics
- Pool and spa
- Septic system
- Sump pump
- Well pump

While Liberty Home Guard’s coverage caps are relatively low, its monthly costs are among the lowest of the home warranty providers we reviewed in Connecticut.

Liberty Home Guard offers an appliance-only plan, a systems-only plan, and a combination of the two. LHG’s sample contract details coverage limits, which are generally up to $2,000 for appliances and systems. Note that the provider only covers up to $500 for plumbing and electrical systems. You can also add up to 42 additional types of coverage to customize your plan. Service fees range from $65 to $125 and depend on your location, plan, and add-ons.
We like that Liberty Home Guard offers perks for paying upfront—you can get two months of free coverage if you pay your premium annually rather than monthly.

Our Experience Filing Claims
Our team tested several of the home warranty companies we featured in this article to help you see what the claims experience would be like with these companies.
Liberty Home Guard
One of our in-house testers, Amanda L., signed up for a Liberty Home Guard plan to see how it really works. She found the signup process to be simple and easy. “I felt clear on exactly what I’d pay upfront, and I liked that it was easy to do completely online. I also like that I can file a claim online.”
Amanda also appreciated the peace of mind a home warranty plan offered. “Having had a dishwasher leak last year, it provides me comfort to know that if anything happens to my appliances, I can get a third party to deal with some of those details quickly.”
Her one regret was not signing up for more coverage. Six months into her plan, Amanda’s water heater broke, and her plan didn’t cover it. LHG also repeatedly called her during her first week of coverage to upgrade, which she didn’t appreciate.
Choice Home Warranty
Another team member, Julie F., purchased a five-year Choice Home Warranty plan for several rental houses and her own home. She has filed multiple claims in the last two years with mixed results. She has used both the online portal and called a claims specialist to file a claim if the online portal didn’t have the correct diagnostic issue. While the portal was easy to use, she would sometimes have to wait for half an hour or more to speak with a representative when she called in about a claim.
When she first moved into her home during the summer, her air conditioning went out, and it took over two weeks to get a contractor to fix it. She called each day but said the representatives were unhelpful. For other claims, contractors would sometimes fix the problem and sometimes just diagnose it, collect their service fee, and leave.
Home Warranty Costs in Connecticut
The average cost of a home warranty in Connecticut is $45–$91 per month. This range is higher than the national average of $56, which may be due to providers charging more per plan in the state.
Home warranty costs can vary due to factors such as the level of coverage chosen, the size and age of the home, the number of systems or appliances covered, and the geographic location. These factors can also influence service fees and repair costs.
The table below shows the general cost ranges for each provider we included in this article. Your pricing may vary based on your specific location, home size, and plan selections.
Provider | Monthly Cost | Service Fee |
---|---|---|
American Home Shield | $41–$132 | $100, $125 |
Choice Home Warranty | $63–$72 | $100 |
Elite Home Warranty | $45–$60 | $70, $150 |
AFC Home Warranty | $44–$82 | $75, $125 |
Liberty Home Guard | $49–$68 | $65–$125 |
How We Determined Home Warranty Pricing
To estimate home warranty costs in Connecticut and nationwide, we gathered over 4,000 quotes from 13 companies across all 50 states. We collected our data using sample addresses for single-family homes of varying sizes, both under and over 5,000 square feet. This included homes in urban and rural areas of Connecticut, such as Glastonbury, Hartford, New Haven, and Winsted. We also gathered national pricing based on similar-sized homes.
We supplemented this data with our 2025 survey analysis of 2,000 homeowners who own a home warranty. We pulled averages from respondents who live in Connecticut. After compiling both data sets, we averaged the costs to determine the price ranges for both the state and the nation.
Survey Insights from Connecticut Homeowners
As mentioned above, we conducted an in-depth survey of 2,000 home warranty users in 2025 to better understand how much they pay for their home warranty and their customer experience. Our findings revealed that many Connecticut homeowners own older homes, with 50% living in pre-owned homes that are 20 years or older. Given how common older homes are in the state, it’s no surprise that 59% of respondents bought plans that covered both systems and appliances.
We also explored which home items Connecticut homeowners prioritize for coverage. Approximately 41% of respondents chose home warranty coverage for their heating systems, which aligns with the state’s climate and heating needs. When it comes to appliances, water heaters (41%) and refrigerators (27%) were the most commonly protected. Homeowners also expanded their coverage with add-ons, with roof leak protection and septic tank pumping being the most popular choices. These add-ons provide extra protection for systems that can be costly to repair or replace.
Connecticut homeowners experienced a high claim approval rate, with nearly 91% reporting that their provider approved their claim. The most common claims were for appliance repairs or replacements (55%), followed by system issues (41%). Claim resolutions were almost evenly split, with 45% receiving an item replacement and 41% receiving a repair. Overall, homeowners were pleased with their claims process, with 81% reporting being very satisfied or satisfied with the outcome.
How We Collected Our Survey Data
We conducted a nationwide survey of 2,000 homeowners in 2025 to better understand their experiences with owning a home warranty. The survey explored various aspects, including satisfaction with coverage, reasons for purchasing one, and interactions with customer service and claims processes. Additionally, we examined key factors like pricing, add-on coverage options, and homeowners’ intentions regarding future plan renewals.

Methodology: How We Evaluated Connecticut Home Warranty Providers
To find the top Connecticut home warranty companies, we spoke with industry professionals to identify common repairs and replacements throughout the state.
We back up our home warranty ratings and recommendations with a detailed rating methodology to objectively score each provider. We conduct research by speaking with company representatives, requesting quotes, analyzing sample contracts from each company, and conducting focus groups and consumer surveys. We then score each provider against our review standards to arrive at a final score on a 5-point rating scale:
- Coverage: In Connecticut, you want a provider with high coverage caps and full coverage since older homes are more prevalent in the state and houses have to weather intense winter conditions. The best providers cover a range of appliances and systems and offer coverage that begins in 30 days or less.
- Cost: We rank providers on monthly (or annual) premiums, service fees, and extra fees. Our highest-ranked providers have an average monthly cost of less than $60 and an average service fee of less than $70, with no extra fees charged.
- Trustworthiness: It’s important to work with companies you can trust. Providers who have high BBB ratings, no current government lawsuits, and are National Home Service Contract Association members rank highest.
- Plan transparency: When comparing home warranty companies, it helps if information is clearly spelled out on a provider’s website. Our highest-ranked companies offer transparent online pricing along with sample contracts that clearly spell out coverage limits and specifics for the state of Connecticut.
- Customer support: When you’re filing a claim, you’ll want a fast, easy-to-use claims portal and helpful customer support options if you have a problem. Our top-ranked companies offer coverage in all 50 states, as well as quick response times and multiple customer service contact options.
- Flexibility: Providers who offer three or more plans, the ability to choose your own technician, and plenty of add-on options take our top rankings in this category.
- Firsthand experience submitting claims: We’ve purchased plans for all of our top-ranked providers, and we’ve filed claims with four of the five, to bring you firsthand experience of the claims process.
