Super Maintenance Services

In addition to home warranty coverage, Super provides maintenance services that include pre-season HVAC tune-ups, pest control, lawn pre-emergent service, carpet cleaning, ceiling fan and light fixture maintenance, dryer vent cleaning installation, weed treatment, window cleaning, termite treatment, re-keying, and lawn fertilization. Super’s website notes these services aren’t available in all markets, and prices vary depending on location.

Super Home Warranty Pricing

Unlike traditional home warranty companies, Super charges a subscription fee. You can pay on a monthly basis or pay for an annual subscription (which lowers your monthly fee). Costs vary based on your location, the size of your home, and the plan you choose, so we recommend getting a quote from Super for more accurate pricing.

For a 1,500- to 5,000-square-foot home in Washington D.C., Simple plans start at $64 per month ($729 per year), Signature plans start at $75 per month ($869 per year), and Lux plans start at $119 per month ($1,399 per year). These costs are quite high, especially when you compare them to the average home warranty cost, which is $56 per month.

Plan TypeMonthly CostAnnual CostService Call Fee
Simple$64+$729+$75
Signature$75+$869+$75
Lux$119+$1,399+$75

Note: Service call fees are not included in the monthly premium. Super’s per-visit service call fee is $99, which is slightly higher than the industry average.

Super Home Warranty Claims Process

Your care and repair coverage goes into effect within 15 days of purchase. You can submit a service request through the website, mobile app, or email or call Super. The company will then work with a technician in their network to schedule an at-home visit.

Customer service is not available 24/7, unlike most home warranty companies. Super’s customer service hours are 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturdays, and 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on Sundays.

Repair services are typically scheduled during regular business hours, between Monday and Friday, with the exception of holidays.

Super Home Warranty Reviews

Super holds a B rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). As of April 2020, there are 30 customer reviews, with a mix of them being positive and negative. While many customers appreciate Super’s user-friendly technology, effective problem-solving, and helpful concierge service, some contractors have reported issues with the company’s payment practices and paperwork requirements.

Here are a few reviews from Super customers.

“Love the easy-to-use technology combined with the ability to reach a human when needed.”— Kristin B., via BBB

I have dealt with about 5 other home warranty companies in the past. Super was the only one that solved issues the first time someone was out. Their concierge also has worked with my tenants to fix handyman issues, and I just got a new fridge. Would not use ANY other home warranty company. Stick to Super.” Jon C., via BBB

I am a contractor and Super refused to pay our fee after the job was accepted. And asking for a w9 and we’re not even in the network.” — Jose M., via BBB

What Are Common Home Warranty Red Flags?

When choosing a home warranty, be aware of common red flags that can lead to trouble down the road. Careful reading of a provider’s residential service contract, checking online reviews, and confirming their claims process can help you avoid a denied claim. Here are a few red flags to watch for:

  • Excessive exclusions: Some plans have an extensive list of exclusions that limit coverage. These exclusions may include specific brands, appliance parts, maintenance-related damage, and more. We suggest avoiding companies that won’t cover the items you need protection for.
  • Inconsistent terms and conditions: Look for consistency between oral explanations by sales representatives and written contract terms. Be wary of companies that avoid discussing certain terms over the phone or fail to address customer inquiries in writing.
  • Limited availability and transparency: Ensure the company’s services are available in your state. Verify its business enrollment with your state’s licensing department and watch for any complaints about misleading advertising or invalid license claims.
  • Numerous negative reviews: Consistent negative feedback regarding denied claims, poor customer service, and unsuccessful repairs is a significant red flag.
  • Poor customer service: Look out for difficulty reaching customer service, delayed responses to claims, and unhelpful service technicians.
  • Short repair times: Home warranty companies may impose short timeframes, leading to rushed or incomplete repairs. Be concerned if companies rush through the repair process without thoroughly addressing the issues.

Our Final Super Home Warranty Review

Super Home Warranty is a solid provider, but we don’t currently recommend it for home warranty coverage. While Super offers smart maintenance services and a streamlined claims process, it is only available in eight states. Additionally, its three plans are more expensive than many top home warranty providers.

If you live in a state where Super is available, it may still be worth considering. However, we recommend American Home Shield if you live outside of Super Home Warranty’s service area. AHS provides generous HVAC coverage and high-end appliance protection, making it a great choice if you own older home items.

Our Rating Methodology

We use a detailed rating methodology to objectively score each home warranty company we review. We conduct research by speaking with company representatives, requesting quotes, analyzing sample contracts, and running focus groups and homeowner surveys.

We use this information to score each provider in six comparison categories that we think are most important when choosing a home warranty. We rate each provider across 23 factors within those categories. Each factor is assigned a point value based on its importance to a homeowner, totaling 100 points. We convert the final scores to a 5-star rating.

Here’s a breakdown of our weighted factors:

  • Coverage (35%): This category looks at how comprehensive each provider’s coverage is, including whether it covers unique items. Companies that cover the most items and have higher annual limits received the highest scores. We docked points from providers that impose long waiting periods or have depreciation policies that decrease your payouts for aging items.
  • Cost (20%): We looked at average monthly prices and service call fees. We gave the most points to companies offering pricing at or below the industry average that don’t impose any surcharges or extra fees.
  • Trustworthiness (15%): To gauge reputation and reliability, we reviewed customer ratings across sites such as the Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot, as well as companies’ responses to complaints. We also checked for National Home Service Contract Association (NHSCA) membership. Providers with the highest ratings and longest workmanship guarantees received higher scores. We deducted points for any ongoing legal issues.
  • Plan transparency (10%): We read terms, policies, and disclosures in provided contracts and on each company’s website. Providers with transparent contract details and policies received more points.
  • Customer support (10%): Companies with multiple claims filing options, fast response times, and accessible customer support scored well in this category.
  • Flexibility (10%): We awarded more points to providers offering more plan options, larger add-on catalogs, the ability to choose your own technician, and customer-friendly cancellation policies.
