Tucked out of site behind a handsome barndoor but easily accessible to the homeowner and her house guests on the second floor, the laundry room is packed with practical amenities. The laundry room sink area is surrounded by storage. Reclaimed barnboard shelves and door supply a rustic touch to this working space.

Fun, flexible, and kid-friendly
Eli’s room is multipurpose: It’s a place for the 10-year-old to rest, of course, but also to play with friends and work on school projects. Sleepover-friendly bunk beds and a desk nook for reading and studying tuck under the vaulted ceilings. Pillows, bedding, and a rug made from natural fibers soften the space.

The solar-powered operable skylight has a light-filtering blind. Reading lamps light the top bunk and the desk. The saturated shade of the gray accent wall behind the desk makes the wall recede for more depth while also preventing glare.

Vaulted guest room
Simple and spare, the guest bedroom reflects the home’s Scandinavian design ethos. A roof beam and supporting post add warm and interest to the accent wall painted a dark olive green.

Shared bath
Simple luxury characterizes the full bath serving the two upstairs bedrooms (including Eli’s) in the main home. The zero-clearance walk-in shower has a rain head and handheld shower. The open vanity in natural oak continues the theme of Scandinavian simplicity.

The glassed-in bridge from the main house to the owner’s suite in a wing situated over the garage is a natural place to pause and take in the view of the outdoors. Running throughout the second floor is five-inch character-grade oak flooring with no stain, just three coats of a clear matte finish; prized knots are filled with clear epoxy for a smooth surface.

Sleek sanctuary
Spa-like serenity pervades the owner’s suite. The king-size bed is lit by strips of LED lights and flanked by wall-hung nightstands and pendants. Inspired by her favorite European hotels, Amy designed this space to be open and free-flowing; the bath and closet are behind the bedroom, accessible from either end.
