In this episode:
Work and progress continue at the Newburyport house. The screened-in porch that will become a part of the living room has been weathered in. All the electrical and plumbing have been replaced, the new mudroom has been built up, and the old pavers have been repurposed into a new patio out back. Overhanging the patio is a small roof section with a valley. Tom Silva shows Kevin O’Connor different methods for roofing the valley with architectural shingles.
Inside, finish carpenter Kevin Rafferty is challenged with making the mantelpiece on the custom fireplace built-in stand out. He mocks up different design options for the homeowners to choose from.
Outside, Charlie Silva begins trimming the windows using a time-saving prefabricated PVC window trim system.
Back inside, Tom comes up with a plan to raise the original newel post and balusters on the original staircase—adding custom extension pieces.
Homeowners Palen and Melissa meet with design showroom owner Kerry Vaughn at her shop to review a design plan for their home and make furniture selections.
Tom and Kevin install the extended newel post, balusters, and new gooseneck for the staircase.
