In this episode:
Plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey puts the mystery behind toilet seat replacements to rest. Richard shows host Kevin O’Connor how simple toilet seat replacements have become, with standard sizes and bolt patterns. He even explains how corrosion-free plastic hardware is very easy to work with during installation.
But, Richard also shows Kevin the most common issues that a toilet seat repair job may involve. Stripped hardware and corrosion can complicate the issue, but Richard explains how to handle them.
Next, we meet House One editor Jenn Largesse as she continues her backyard renovation project. After installing beautiful composite decking and handrails around her shipping container pool, Jenn works with a contractor to install a vinyl pergola with aluminum reinforcement on her pool deck.
Jenn and the contractor explain the individual pieces of the pergola, from the posts and rafters to the aluminum reinforcement and shade slats. They then build a 4×4 post to fit a vinyl 6×6 sleeve before installing the aluminum posts and assembling all the parts.
Finally, carpenter Nathan Gilbert takes us on a house call to help a homeowner with an antique lockset. After the homeowner explains her troubles, Nathan removes a century-old mortise lockset from the door before disassembling it to investigate.
After finding the troublesome parts, Nathan heads to a local locksmith to source replacements. He then walks the homeowner through the repair process, resulting in a professional repair that maintains the historical integrity of the door.
Nathan then heads back to the shop to explain how modern cylindrical locksets differ from mortise sets. He shows Kevin how simple these modern locksets are to install and repair.
