Master electrician Heath Eastman helps a homeowner add some lighting and style to her back deck, helping it stand out among the neighboring homes. By installing a set of hooks, some posts, and a smart timer, Heath can transform the builder-basic back deck into a cozy, inviting evening space.
Next, we meet host Kevin O’Connor and general contractor Tom Silva back at the shop to discuss levels. While most folks know about two-foot levels and torpedo levels, Tom expands our knowledge by explaining laser, water, and atmospheric levels, which work over wider areas.
Up next, paint expert Mauro Henrique takes us on a house call to help a homeowner refresh her 70-year-old cabinets. Mauro takes a shelf to Home Depot to match the color first, showing us the process required for a perfect match. Then, he helps the homeowner put a fresh coat of paint on her cabinets for a 50’s-fresh look.
How to Install Outdoor String Lights
Heath Eastman transforms a homeowner’s outdoor patio by installing exterior-rated string lights.
Where to find it?
Heath uses exterior-rated string lights, which can be found at any home center and need to be rated for outdoor use.
To hang the lights, Heath uses a universal mounting kit which includes 4 powder-coated steel poles. Each pole extends to 10 feet tall. Heath uses a drill and exterior decking screws to secure the base of each pole to the 4 outer edges of the patio.
To hang the string lights: Heath uses a ladder to carefully hang the wires of the string lights to each metal anchor hook. Heath then secures the wires to the hooks using threaded links.
Heath mounts the smart switch inside by drilling two small holes to secure the bracket of the smart switch in place.

How To Choose the Right Level for the Job
General contractor Tom Silva shows host Kevin O’Connor everything he needs to know about choosing the right level for the task at hand.
How to Paint Metal Cabinets
Mauro Henrique helps a homeowner with a 1959 vintage kitchen revamp her metal cabinets by paint-matching and repainting its iconic aqua color.
Where to find it?
To prep the cabinet surface, Mauro cleans the cabinets using degreasing spray cleaner. To protect the surrounding area, Mauro lays out a drop cloth onto the countertop and tapes off the edges of the cabinets with painter’s pre-taped masking film.
To smooth out the texture and remove any remaining rust, Mauro and Molly sand the rusted areas of the cabinets with 220-grit sandpaper.
To prep the bare metal surface on the cabinets, Mauro and Molly apply rust-resistant primer spray for metal surfaces.
To prep the entire cabinets for painting, Mauro and Molly sand the surfaces with 800-grit sandpaper.
Mauro uses a semi-gloss acrylic Direct to Metal (DTM) paint to paint the cabinets. Mauro uses 6” foam rollers and applies 2 coats to apply the paint.
