Kevin O’Connor arrives at the house and meets Zack Dettmore and Tom Silva out back at the addition’s foundation, which will be a slab on grade. With the footings and walls poured and brought up to grade, they are now ready for the concrete slab to be poured.
After checking in with them, Kevin steps away to meet with architect Jeff Jordan to review the overall layout of the project. Jeff shows how the new two-story addition will change the flow of the back of the house on the first floor and create an opportunity for a new primary bedroom on the second floor.
Later, Jenn Nawada and Zack talk about how the new addition and patio will affect stormwater runoff. They look at directing perforated pipes from the foundation to a new seepage pit in the backyard to address the issue.
Later, Tom and Zack tackle the task of applying a waterproof membrane to the house’s exterior.
Curious about the design and technology behind the membrane, Zack travels to Switzerland to visit the factory where it’s made and to meet their team.
