What Are the Options and Services that Momentum Offers?

Momentum Solar uses a variety of brands but installs only Tier 1 solar panels. This means that no matter what manufacturer Momentum uses for your solar panels, they have to have been producing solar panels for at least five years. This also means that Momentum provides monocrystalline solar panels. These panels are currently the most effective in the industry. They have a longer lifespan, averaging between 25 and 40 years.
Momentum Solar works with Enphase Energy for its inverters. The company focuses mainly on microinverters, as these convert renewable energy directly at each panel rather than receive a complicated solar system that requires multiple junction boxes and inverters. For customers who want to save their excess energy, Momentum Solar offers solar battery installation.

Momentum Solar App

Momentum’s mobile app allows customers to stay up to date on their project and receive details on completed and future installation steps. In addition to progress alerts, the app delivers energy production data to customers to ensure efficiency and determine peak production hours. The Momentum app offers a customer support function, providing direct access to email or phone support. The app also allows customers to schedule appointments, giving them control over each step of the installation process.

Enphase MyEnlighten

In addition to Momentum’s solar app, the company’s microinverter supplier, Enphase, offers complimentary monitoring software that gives customers more advanced system metrics.

Customers can analyze system performance against weather data, verify system health, and share metrics on social media.

What Do Customers Say About Momentum Solar?

We surveyed 1,000 homeowners who purchased solar panels in the last three years on which brand they chose. Only 2% said they went with Momentum, though this could be due to the company operating in just 12 states.

Momentum Solar is accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and holds an A+ rating from the company, as well as 3 out of 5 stars from customers.* Many reviewers praise Momentum for its solar panel quality and warranty options. More critical customer reviews point to scheduling difficulties and the company’s tendency to engage in spam calls. We recommend having a flexible schedule if you’re looking to have Momentum’s installation team come to your home.

We’ve included some Momentum Solar BBB reviews below to give you a glimpse into the customer experience:

Positive Reviews

“Not so long ago, the installers showed up in the morning and finished their task in a few hours – it was amazing how quiet they were on my rooftop. I was thrilled when I saw that my electricity use went down instantly after looking at PSEG’s app.” – Kathryn W via BBB on 05/19/2023

“After I contacted Momentum Solar via their website, they swiftly called me to get into a conversation about all aspects of the process. They were helpful and accommodating while responding to my inquiries. The customer service rep made getting solar panels an exhilarating experience rather than a scary one.” – Kira F. via BBB on 05/04/2023

Negative Reviews

“I had an appointment scheduled for a sales call and they called 40 minutes after the scheduled time, asking for another 45 minutes. I’m too busy for this. Then, since I have researched quite a bit and know what I want, I asked for a call to discuss price and warranty, and they said ok, in 3 months!” – Tom B. via BBB on 06/13/2023

“On the date of installation (5/18/2013), the roofers and electricians showed up with a different design/configuration than was provided by the Care Team Specialist. I was asked to agree to the placement of panels on other parts of my roof and to accept all the apparatus (conduit and anchors) accompanying it. I returned home early to find the roofers had left but did not conduct any clean-up. I picked up 10 2+” screws throughout my yard, short sections of conduit in the gutters, and miscellaneous materials in the gutters and yard.” – Andrew C. via BBB on 06/14/2023

What Are the Payment Options?

Momentum Solar allows customers to take advantage of multiple payment options as shown below.

  • Cash purchase: You can avoid interest rates and get to own your system from day one by purchasing in full upfront.
  • Solar loan: Solar loans work similarly to a home or auto loan, with customers paying a monthly fee to own their panels and benefiting from solar incentives.
  • Solar lease: Solar lease customers benefit from solar energy without owning the panels by paying a fixed monthly rate with little to no upfront costs.
  • Power purchase agreement (PPA): With a PPA, customers pay a monthly fee based on the amount of energy their leased solar panels produce. At the end of a PPA, customers can remove or purchase the system.

Here’s a look at how our 1,000 survey respondents paid for their solar panel system:

  • 49% paid in full upfront
  • 23% went with a solar loan
  • 11% used a solar lease
  • 17% chose a power purchase agreement

What Is the Momentum Solar Installation Process?

  1. Site assessment—A Momentum solar specialist conducts a site assessment to make sure that your home can support solar energy. Typical items evaluated during a site assessment include your home’s annual energy usage and your roof’s slope, age, and condition.
  2. Design—Before installation, Momentum will design your system to maximize solar output and fit with your home’s infrastructure.
  3. Permitting—Before beginning construction, Momentum acquires the necessary permits and works with your municipality to ensure your solar project meets specific solar energy criteria.
  4. Installation—Once the paperwork and system design are complete, Momentum technicians will install your system.
  5. Inspection—To ensure your system meets local requirements, Momentum will schedule an inspection after installation is completed.
  6. Energization—For your system to begin producing solar energy, Momentum will schedule a local grid connection with your electric company. At this stage, your utility company will set up net metering, which allows you to receive credit for excess energy produced.

Is Going Solar Worth it?

Due to recent solar technology developments, solar panels are worth it more than ever before. In fact, 96% of our survey takers said they felt going solar was beneficial, and 82% said it increased their property value. A solar energy system provides you with unlimited access to renewable energy. In addition, you’ll no longer rely on expensive fossil fuels, reducing monthly electricity costs. You should also expect solar panels to increase your home’s value by roughly $15,000.  In our survey of 1,000 homeowners, 82% of respondents reported a property value increase, and 36% reported that their property value increased between 6% and 10%.

Solar Incentives and Rebates

You’ll also qualify for solar tax incentives and rebates when you choose to purchase the system outright or with a solar loan. The federal government provides the federal solar investment tax credit (ITC) to all homeowners. This incentive supplies a credit to your owed federal taxes up to 30% of your solar panel installation costs.

Net-metering is a popular incentive that lets you earn credits from your local utility company based on the excess energy your solar panel system produces and sends back to the power grid. These credits are applied to your monthly electricity bills to save money. Depending on your energy consumption, you may profit from net-metering. Our survey found 32% of solar buyers took advantage of net metering. Net metering, or a similar program, is available in every state Momentum operates in, though availability and restrictions are dependent on your utility provider in some states.
