We love our “What Is It?” segments, and it’s not just because we’re featuring a new tool or material. We also love hearing what our crew comes up with. When heating and plumbing expert Richard Trethewey brought small, gray, rubber puck-like objects to the shop, the team’s ideas started to flow.
We’re Not Eating Waffles at Kevin’s House
We’re skipping brunch at host Kevin O’Connor’s house. He’s certain that these small, puck-like objects with a waffled indent are miniature waffle makers. He says by pouring a bit of batter into the puck, putting the pucks together, and squeezing, you’ll make miniature waffles. No thanks, Kevin.
Tom Thinks They’re Basement Savers
General contractor Tom Silva took one look at these objects and had an idea. He thought they could be used during a basement flood. Simply throw them on the ground so they can soak up water and then take them outside to dump them. Richard thinks his pumps are probably a bit more useful.
Mauro’s Sleight of Hand Was Impressive. Wrong, but Impressive
Paint expert Mauro Henrique’s idea was impressive. He thought they were for a street game and immediately wowed us with his sleight of hand. After taking us through the shell game and winning $5 from Kevin, we knew that wasn’t the case.
They’re Made for Dryers?
Richard showed us what they’re actually for: clothes dryers. No, they don’t go in the dryer, they go underneath it. The dryer’s feet are placed in the waffle sections and as the dryer rocks back and forth during use, these units absorb the shock and dampen the noise. Much more useful than anything the crew had to offer.

Richard brought in anti-vibration pads for quieting washer and dryer machines.
