In conjunction with The This Old House TV Veteran’s Special House Project, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matt DeWitt describes living in the new accessible house provided by Homes for Our Troops (HFOT). On his first deployment to Iraq, in 2003, Matt sustained serious injuries in a rocket-propelled-grenade (RPG) attack that resulted in the partial amputation of both arms. Today, his family enjoys their new home, where keyless entry, raised countertops, accessible storage, touchless faucets, and raised garden beds will make life easier as they pursue shared passions for cycling and gardening.
The construction of their mortgage-free home was made possible by Home for Our Troops and was featured in three special episodes of This Old House TV.
