The gang returns to New England for the final project of Season 46. Kevin O’Connor meets Charlie Silva with homeowners Dianne, Charles, Emily and Ethan outside of their Westford Colonial Revival.
The house was built in 1893 but unfortunately in 2016 it suffered a three-alarm fire and was abandoned for almost a decade until our homeowners decided to purchase the house and bring it back to its former glory.
Emily explains the family’s plan: she and her boyfriend will live in the restored house and her parents, Dianne and Charles, will live in the carriage house out back that will later be renovated into an ADU.
Inside, Dianne and Emily give Kevin a tour of the first floor to show him everything they hope to restore along with some new ideas for the space.
Upstairs, Kevin finds Tom Silva assessing the fire damage in the ceiling and he explains to Kevin his theory on how the fire spread.
Meanwhile in the basement, Richard Trethewey states that the homeowners now have a blank slate to work with. They can take a house as old as 1893 and make it as efficient as any built today with insulation and new HVAC systems.
Outside, Jenn Nawada meets with the chair of the Westford Historical Commission David Gutbrod to learn about the original owners of this historic house.
Kevin meets general contractor Charlie and homeowner Charles outside to discuss plans for the exterior of the house. The house will need new siding, but Charlie will be able to save the granite foundation which is original to Westford.
Charlie and Tom get to work on dismantling the chimney so that they can remove the temporary roof to see the extent of the fire damage.
