For our 40th season, This Old House went to a century-old New England cottage in Jamestown, Rhode Island, to restore the home’s charm while also making it energy efficient. Homeowners Dana and Donald have a net-zero energy goal for the new home for their family of four, with state-of-the-art energy efficiency and environmental sensitivity at top of mind. You can follow along with new episodes, starting October 4th on PBS. Check here for local listings to find out when episodes are airing in your neck of the woods. | PHOTO: KEVIN O’CONNOR
We couldn’t wait to get started on this little gem in Jamestown. But things came to a halt when we discovered that the original cedar shingles had a layer of asbestos shingles placed atop them many years ago. The affected shingles had to come off, and they had to come off properly. Suits, respirators, site containment, material containment, and then proper disposal. Follow along with the whole demo and removal process when the 40th-anniversay season of This Old House kicks off on October 4th. Check local listings to see when the show will air in your market.
