Paint expert Mauro Henrique takes us on a road trip to solve a homeowner’s problem with his cracking drywall. After a laundry room relocation, a plumber had to access the pipes in the wall, and the patch has been cracking ever since. Mauro takes the homeowner shopping to get the tools and materials required for the job before showing him the proper procedure for taping and painting a drywall patch.
Next, we meet host Kevin O’Connor and mason Mark McCullough at the shop to talk about bricks. Mark shows Kevin some of the different types of bricks and how they’ve changed over the years.
After Mark’s brick breakdown, Kevin meets with landscape contractor Jenn Nawada, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, and general contractor Tom Silva to discuss a unique tool. After taking guesses at what Tom’s mysterious inflatable black square could be, he explains that he uses it to level doors and other objects while shimming for a perfect result.
Finally, Richard heads out on a house call to answer a homeowner’s call for help. After renovating some wainscot, the homeowner realized his old baseboard cover wouldn’t cut it. Richard helps the homeowner with two solutions, installing different types of baseboard covers in the basement and upstairs for a great, fresh look.
How to Patch Cracked Drywall
When a homeowner decided to move his laundry room upstairs to make handling his children’s laundry easier, his plumber had to cut open the walls to make the pipe connections. While the drywall was repaired after the project, the homeowner has been dealing with cracking seams ever since. When he finally had enough patching and painting on his own, he called the team at Ask This Old House for their help, and paint expert Mauro Henrique gladly answered the call.
What Is It? | Black Inflatable Square
When general contractor Tom Silva brought a new tool to the shop, no one knew what it was. It’s black, flexible, square, and has a ball attached to the end. Safe to say, none of the other crew members knew what it was.
Evolution of Bricks
Mason Mark McCullough teaches host Kevin O’Connor everything he needs to know about bricks, including the most common types and some interesting history.
How to Install Baseboard Radiator Covers
The downside of updating a space is that older fixtures and features often stand out like a sore thumb. When a homeowner realized that their wainscot paint job made their baseboard look shabby and dated, they called Ask This Old House for help. Plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey gladly obliged, bringing a new solution for these old problems.
